Community Services Committee

Corvallis is a wonderful community with many outstanding qualities. Those of us who live here are proud of being able to live and work in such a place. But all communities have needs, some of which may not necessarily be visible to all.

The Kiwanis Community Services Committee tries to help fulfill these needs by awarding grants to local nonprofit organizations and by coordinating projects for Kiwanis volunteers to help make our community an even better place in which to live.  If you have a grant request please submit the request in writing to:

 Community Services Committee Activities

Grab Bar Installations

Prevention of falls is especially important for seniors, patients recovering from surgery or other medical treatments, and those with fragile health. Grab bars provide support for gaining access to standard bathrooms. The Kiwanis Community Services Committee coordinates the Grab Bar Installation Program in which Kiwanis volunteers install safety grab bars when requested.

Triangle Park

The next time you are driving into downtown Corvallis from the south entrance, take note of the Kiwanis Triangle – a small patch of ground where south third and fourth streets meet. Kiwanis volunteers maintain an attractive array of plants in an effort to help make our community more attractive.

Vina Moses

Vina Moses Center is a Corvallis non-profit agency that serves as a link between community giving and those with limited resources to meet basic needs by providing clothing, household items, and school supplies as well as emergency assistance for medical, shelter, heat and transportation. Our members help with fundraisers and several service programs, including back-to-school, food baskets, Christmas gifts, and gowns for the prom. In addition, we donated a trailer for hauling unusable donated items to the disposal site, painted the exterior of the building, and landscaped and maintain the front area.

Meals On Wheels

The Meals on Wheels program provides nutritious meals for seniors and persons with disabilities. Kiwanis volunteers assist by delivering meals on three days a week and substituting as needed.

Old Mill Center for Children and Families

The Old Mill Center is a family-oriented center helping children of diverse backgrounds maximize their potential through specially designed education and therapy programs. Kiwanis helps with a variety of yard maintenance and construction and projects. A special project with the Young Children Priority Committee was the purchase and installation of a climbing wall.

Red Cross Blood Drives

The American Red Cross holds monthly blood drives on the third Tuesday of each month, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm at the Corvallis Episcopal Church. Our Kiwanis club helps each month with the physical set up and take down as well as sponsoring two drives a year. In addition, many Kiwanians donate their blood.
